Info I forgot to include in my entry:

Launched from ~5' above previously measured gutter: ~197" high
Landing point ~180' to left of launch point, and on the ground (marked
with string, which was then measured)
Ballistic distance = hypotenuse = sqrt(197*197 + 180*180) =

(Death-defying split) Send your octopus on the longest possible ballistic trajectory. Clearly document the distances involved.

Disclaimer: all measurements were done by a single person with string and measuring tape, and are hopelessly approximate.

Disclaimer #2: Due to difficulty of photographing the launch process, the sequence of pictures are actually from several different attempts -- but all pictures really were taken of the same launch method and same starting point.

Pic 827: slingshot method
Pic 831: Octopus in flight
Pic 834: Best distance
Pic 816: Extra bonus dramatic launch shot (by special guest star)

Best distance: 390" (measured along the ground)

Bonus material (because it's too amusing not to post :) ):

Pic 825 : slingstone method
Pic 813: In flight
Pic 791: Best (if embarrassing) distance
Pic 793: From above

Best distance: 286"

gutter 13'7" high
launch height ~5'6"
horizontal ~23'

So triangle sides = 276" x 71"
Hypotenuse (flight distance) = sqrt(76176 + 5041) = 286"

If I can make a stew out of me.
I'll put in some pepper and salt and I'll sit
In the bubbling water--I won't scream a bit.
I'll sing while I simmer, I'll smile while I'm stewing,
I'll taste myself often to see how I'm doing.
I'll stir me around with a big wooden spoon
And serve myself up at a quarter to noon.
So bring out your stew bowls
You gobblers and snackers.
Farewell--and I hope you enjoy me with crackers!"

Sports

Show your octopodes's teamwork in a sporting event!

Tako Yaki and Tudo Azul run a relay together, and beat a team of penguins to the finish line. (As octopode entrants, they are running in lane 8, of course.)

Defense

Some octopodes seem to think that various entries by others have not been given enough credit. Your octopus may submit a Spirited Defense of another's entry which it thinks should have been higher, and this contest will give it another chance at points.

Tudo Azul would like to put in a good word for Linus and Akira's Twins entry.

Of the entries as of this writing (leaving aside Tudo Azul's own entry, since one should not argue the merit of one's own entry), only Linus and Akira's shows any indication of where the pictures were taken: the picnics, remotes, and even horses could be absolutely anywhere, for all one can judge from the photos.

Linus and Akira also show the most specific objects in their photos: not merely common objects or animals, but Green Buildings of Earth Science.

Finally, Linus and Akira's entry deserves recognition for both research effort and wit.

Respectfully submitted,
Tudo Azul

Charybdis had a campaign poster long before the meta-loyalty event was unveiled -- indeed, before any events were unveiled! Surely he should be counted as having entered the meta-loyalty competition, and his entry judged among those of his peers?

(Tudo Azul realizes this could be construed as an Appeal. But he prefers to think of it as a meta-defense, appropriate to the meta-event it refers to. :) )
